Crafter Stitch: Free Embroidery Style Dingbat Font

19/6/2016

I created a dingbat font from scratch!!! Permit me to be a boring boasty-boaster pants for a moment please as I'm seriously chuffed with my wee self!

I'm a HUGE fan of the blog Clever Someday and found Kay's Border Bits font really changed how I used Silhouette Studio.  It allows you to curve cicles, hearts and more snazzy shapes such as fleur-de-lis around any Silhouette Studio shape.  This is not normally possible, but because it is a font, you can use the text-to-path functionality.  This frees you to to do way more with your own designs and I use it alot.

So, when making fabric appliques with HTV edging for my niece Emily, I thought it would be nice if I could do embroidery style edging.  I looked around but couldn't find anything, so with another tutorial from Kay, I took the plunge and made one myself.  I'm such a geek, I stayed up through the night one Friday to make it, I'm so rock and roll haha!

Here's my Silhouette UK blog post which has a free link to download and it shows you hints and tips for using.  Next week, I'll have another blog post which will show how to use it with htv to make some baby rompers.

Hi Nadine,
Love This!!!!
However, I can't seem to download it. Don't know if it's my computer, my browser, or a problem with the download, but I've downloaded MANY ttf files, and have never had a problem before. Would love to be able to use this file, as (I noted in another comment to you) I love how you used them with your Liberty fabric!

Hey there, I just tested the Google Drive link and it seems to work ok for me. The address is
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B3l11lsnD5JcZFJWcGtXMnhJcFU/view

On this page, you should see a litle icon of an arrow facing down with a line underneath, at the top right of the screen. Click this and it will download a zip file which includes the ttf font, a character map and example picture.

Either way, I'll send you an email with the file but just worried now in case others are also having difficulty!
Kind regards, Nadine

Hmmmmm,
Just tried again. I don't know what the problem is, but YES I click on the arrow, and it opens the window to ask if I want to open or save the file. I've tried both ways - I normally just open ttf's - but on this file, it acts like it's downloading, but I don't know where it goes, and if I SAVE it, it doesn't appear. HELP!!!!
